Jade – A short history, value, and more
Jade is a very valuable stone, unique, and all jade is not the same. There are several different types of Jade and some confusion between jade and jadeite. Jadeite is the rarer and more valuable variety, and the chief deposits are in Burma (Myanmar), not in China. Surprise! Burma (Myanmar) not China is where the most valuable jade comes from. However, Myanmar supplies have dwindled through the years, and now China is buying Jade to the tune of millions of dollars. In our research we found sales of Jadeite jewelry selling for as much as 27.4 million, though the necklace was crafted by Cartier and belonged to heiress Barbara Hutton, that is still a very highly valued accessory, sold of course, by Sotherby’s. Jade is also popular with the elite, as shown in this picture of actress Jessica Chastain at the premiere of Interstellar.
In September 2016. CNN Style provided insight into the market and tips on buying jade, the article was insightful and partly where the pull came to include Jade as part of the subscription box name. In May of 2016, the BBC wrote a similar article regarding the value of Jade and market growth. Two key points that helped us incorporate Jade into the name. Tim McDonald, a writer for the BBC, writes “Jade usually represents good health and long life for Chinese people” and “Demand for Jade is driven almost entirely by the Chinese market. At the top end, it can be worth more than gold”. All of this research created what is now a selling point for us, jade represents good health, a long life, and it’s valuable and growing in value, which is what we hope the JadeCrate subscription box brings to our fans.
