Most of us are probably working, maybe corporate, maybe you own your own business, it all comes with stress, even if you are a stay at home parent. After years of passionately pursuing have a business model allowing me to focus on the bohemian lifestyle I dreamt of for decades, I had to meditate (yoga, silence, followed by a good white wine, or two) to make the decision and have not looked back since. I had been in the corporate world for a very long time, I finally kicked off the heals, burned my business suits, and proceeded to clear out my home office and converted it to a small meditation room combo retro boho themed home office, it doubles as a painting studio too.
So what happened to me was I burned out, like that of left over smoldering ash from a big ass campfire. Yes, the money was great, but the stress in addition to the costs of being an executive (clothes, food, uppity lifestyle, neglected family), ugh, not worth it. All the corporate mongers wanted was more of my time, more effort, essentially my soul, it felt like hell. I ended up on medication, stopped sleeping, essentially turned into a basket case while I watched my true dream of a freer lifestyle become a mere foggy thought. Really, living a scaled down lifestyle and completely changing your train of thinking, pays for itself, sometimes more. Again, it was a leap of faith, but eventually, I did it and meditation and prayer helped me navigate the mental hurdles of a lifestyle change (note – I took the big jump, you don’t have to go to the extreme I did).

I was able to refocus after going solo, albeit with probably more stress than working for the corporate empire monster (more yoga, music, and red wine required). It doesn’t matter if you are a corporate executive or a solopreneur, the stress is still all the same. We found this great story from entrepreneur.com covering how meditation can help you, and meditation can be done regardless of your religion, it’s a state of mind, or better yet, a clearing of the mind – much like taking the stinky fish from last nights dinner to the outside trash can as negative thoughts and stress are much like day old cooked fish, stinky and not something you want to ponder on.
