Moni’s is a small organic company that Monika Kupnik started herself in 2016 due to her own experience of struggling with various skin issues.After thorough research on different natural ingredients and eliminating toxic products in her daily life, she was able to clear up her skin and help others do the same. She devised a 100% natural coconut face and body scrub line followed by other personal care products. Everything is created from scratch in Gig Harbor, WA using only 100% therapeutic and food-grade ingredients.
Monika personally hand makes or supervises the making of all her products each and every time. JadeCrate likes to share recipes with its subscribers because part of bohemian living includes cooking, yes cooking. Each month we focus on in-season vegetables and simple dishes for busy boho-chic gals who need to cook up a fast and delicious meal. This months veggie is green beans.
In Season – Green Beans
It’s green bean season. What we like about them is they are more versatile than people think with a ton of health benefits, not to mention, a delicious one-course item if you are looking to snack on a low-calorie dinner and are sick of salads. Besides being high in fiber, bonus properties include vitamin A, C, K, B6, and folic acid. They also help reduce heart disease, possess anti-inflammatory properties, and are packed with antioxidants. If you have a chance to pick up a fresh bushel this month, you can find many recipes online for stand-alone meals or ways to spruce them up to complement main courses.
For our vegetarian fans – this one’s for you!
Caramelized Spicy Green Beans, Recipe by Southern Living (slightly modified)
1-pound fresh haricots verts (green beans)
2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon dried crushed red pepper
1 – 2 cloves of minced garlic (optional)
1 medium-size red bell pepper sliced long ways in small strips
1/2 medium-size sweet onion halved and sliced thin
1 teaspoon peanut, olive, or sesame oil
3/4 teaspoon seasoned salt (any seasoned salt of preference will work)
Set up an ice bath in a large bowl. Start cooking the beans by adding a tsp of salt to a pot of water and bring to a boil. Add green beans, cover, and cook 1 minute (2 if you like them a little more tender); drain. Plunge green beans into ice water to stop the cooking process; drain well, pressing between paper towels. Stir together brown sugar, soy sauce, and dried crushed red pepper. Sauté bell pepper, onion, garlic, and green beans in hot peanut oil in a large skillet over high heat 3 to 5 minutes or until beans look blistered and start to brown. Sprinkle with seasoned salt. Remove from heat; add soy sauce mixture to green bean mixture and stir to coat. Serve
We served them with a side of brown rice and it was a very satisfying weeknight meal, but we did need to add extra soy sauce. They would also work with ramen noodles to create a spicy noodle salad, just add a little soy sauce to the noodles.
Alternate cooking method: You can swap the skillet in the final cooking step and grill in a veggie basket if preferred, be sure to spray the veggies with oil or toss them in a bag with some oil.

How to take a vacation without taking time off work
“Vacation is all I ever wanted, vacation, how do I get away?” Remember the Go-Go’s. One of their known hits from the 80’s, “Vacation,” striking home with overworked people everywhere.
Most of us work in some shape or form, in an office, at home, and yes stay at home moms work their butts off too. Many of us are planning or dreaming of taking the perfect vacation to lull us into a utopia of happiness. The term vacation can imprison our thinking and inhibit everyday joy. We believe to “vacation” we must embark on preparing first. All of these steps must take place before we allow ourselves to be on vacation. Preparation includes saving money and taking time off, physically checking out of work, and traveling far distances to give ourselves a break. We set up the preconceived notions of what we see as a vacation and the need to have a massive plan in place to allow ourselves a break. So we hope this little segment sets you free. Mind over matter is essential here because some of us are unable to go away on a big excursion. Stop over thinking and start your holiday, any day.
With a little creativity and mindfulness, you can call anytime and space you create for yourself a vacation. Try making a date with a friend, go out to the country, a walk to the park, or spend the afternoon curled up with a good book and tell your inner flower child, this is your mental or physical vacation, your holiday. Last year we ordered the 1st Edition of The New Bohemians Handbook by Justina Blakeney and fell in love with her room-by-room makeover to bring balance and positive vibes into your home. If you are looking for an excellent read this summer, it is hardback, but worth it, we recommend it.
Ideally, if you are feeling like your space is bogging you down, it probably is. Much of what is in the book are essentials for every bohemian you may know, but her approach to creating great spaces is fantastic. Filled with DIY projects as well, again, the images in this book are fantastic. You will want to start on your first project right away. We call this our “happy place” book at home. Recommend buying the actual book if you don’t have an iPad or another device to see the pictures.
